HISTORY
The Cedars is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Dallas, originally developed starting in the 1870’s. By the turn of the century, it was one of Dallas’ finest neighborhoods, dotted with beautiful Victorian mansions owned by wealthy Dallasites, including the Marcus family, founders of Neiman Marcus. As the industrial era emerged, warehouses started moving in, and the original residents of The Cedars eventually moved out. Over the past 20 years, however, artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs have moved in and started a rebirth of the area, renovating older buildings and building new ones, giving the neighborhood the eclectic vibe it is known for today.
